I drew this in front of the students during a revision lecture. I drew the branches bit by bit, and my hope is that this made clearer to the students that, although the module was ‘large’, it could be thought of in terms of key topics, and in terms of different procedures that achieve similar aims.

Multivariable Calculus (usually) involves some theorems and proofs and numerous procedures for calculating derivatives and integrals. It is a bit of a hybrid in that sense. Concept maps can be even more useful for mapping out a fully theoretical proof-based pure mathematics module, because then one can use arrows to capture logical dependence; to indicate which definitions and theorems are used to prove which other theorems. Here, for example, is part of a concept map for the continuity topic in a module called Analysis. In this one, I also used different shapes for the definitions (ovals), examples (octagons) and theorems (rectangles):
